Singapore is a city, an island and a country at once, and it works well for Indian travellers who want a short, easy, well-organised first trip abroad. Build the days around what matters
A waterfront park beside Marina Bay built around steel Supertrees planted with ferns and orchids and linked by an elevated skyway. Two cooled conservatories hold a Mediterranean flower dome and a misted cloud forest with an indoor waterfall, and a light and sound show runs among the Supertrees each evening.
The observation deck on top of the three-tower Marina Bay Sands hotel, reached by a dedicated lift. Visitors look down over the bay, the central business district and the shipping lanes beyond, and it is a common stop for sunset and for the nightly light show over the water.
A resort island off the southern shore reached by cable car, monorail or a boardwalk. Its film-themed park groups rides around Hollywood, Egyptian and prehistoric zones, and the island also holds beaches, an aquarium, a luge track and a cliff-top zip line into the sea.
A small waterfront promenade at the mouth of the Singapore river, where the lion-headed, fish-bodied Merlion statue spouts water into the bay. It is the standard photograph stop in the city, looking across to Marina Bay Sands and the Esplanade theatres, and it is busiest around dusk.
Two adjoining wildlife parks in the Mandai forest north of the city. The day zoo uses moats rather than bars for open enclosures, while the night safari runs a tram through dimly lit habitats to see nocturnal species such as tapir, civet and Asian elephant after dark.
Two heritage quarters of restored shophouses a few metro stops apart. Chinatown holds the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, the Sri Mariamman temple and a food street; Little India centres on Serangoon Road, with the Sri Veeramakaliamman temple, spice shops, sari stores and Tamil vegetarian canteens.
A glass-domed complex attached to Changi airport, built around the Rain Vortex, an indoor waterfall that drops seven storeys through a terraced garden. Visitors walk the forest valley trails, ride the attractions in the top-floor Canopy Park, and eat and shop between flights on a long layover.
The bay links the skyline, civic district, gardens and evening light displays in a walkable loop. Visitors come for city views after dark; the route is easy to combine with nearby attractions and MRT access.

Getting there from India
Changi Airport is the gateway, with direct and one-stop flights from several Indian cities.
There is no practical through rail journey from India. Singapore's MRT provides extensive urban connectivity after arrival.
Overland travel from India is not a normal visitor route. Airport rail, taxis and buses make local transfers straightforward after arrival.
