How hotel booking works

Hotel booking through Orbitz Holidays is a search shaped by what you actually need rather than by what an aggregator ranks highest. The enquiry covers the destination, the dates, how many rooms and who is sharing, the part of town or resort area you would rather be in, and anything that would rule a property out: no lift, no family rooms, too far from the beach.

From that, a short list of properties is prepared with a plain note on each: location, room type, board basis, and the cancellation terms that apply for your dates. The aim is a shortlist you can decide from in one sitting, not a page of options.

Once you choose, the booking is confirmed with the property or its distribution partner and the confirmation, including the room category and terms, is sent to you.

Standalone bookings and part of a package

A hotel can be booked on its own, for a business trip or a family visit, or as one element of a wider holiday plan. When it is part of a package, the property is chosen to fit the itinerary — close to the first day's activity, on the right side of town for the airport transfer — rather than in isolation.

For multi-city trips, each stay is confirmed in sequence so that check-out and check-in dates line up with the transfers between them.

What is confirmed before booking

Before a room is booked you will have the property name, the room category, the board basis, the number of guests per room, the check-in and check-out dates, and the cancellation and amendment terms in writing. Any charges the property collects locally, such as city or resort fees, are noted where the property discloses them.

Special requests — an early check-in, adjoining rooms, a particular floor — are passed to the property and noted as requests, not guarantees, unless the property confirms them.
